Convert a PDF to text

Saves a document's text as a .txt file, with the page's own line breaks or reflowed paragraphs.

Convert a PDF to text writes the document's text out as a plain .txt file. Two choices shape the result. Line breaks: keep the page's own, which is what you want to read, or reflow to one line per paragraph, which is what you want to feed a search index, a diff or a model — a hard wrap at column width breaks sentence matching. Page breaks: a blank line, a form feed (what pdftotext emits), a labelled “--- Page 3 ---” header for citing back, or nothing at all. Pages with no text layer are named in the result rather than silently dropped, because on a scanned document the honest answer is “run OCR first”, not an empty file.

Network

Works offline. Once this page has loaded, the tool never contacts the network again.

Your document

Nothing leaves your device — the document is processed locally in this browser.

Reads the text layer. A scanned page has none until it has been through OCR.
